World of Warcraft: Forever launched last night after a hugely successful beta, and it's not just players getting in on the fun. Blizzard's MMO is also proving quite the attraction for spectators, soaring all the way up to the top of Twitch's most viewed games.

As of writing, World of Warcraft sits at around 385,000 viewers and streamer Ahmpy has the most popular WoW channel, pulling in around 18,300 live viewers.

For comparison, Twitch's ever-popular non-gaming Just Chatting category is the service's second most watched category with 145,000 viewers, and Riot Games' genre-leading MOBA League of Legends takes third place with 81,400 viewers.

Aion 2, another MMO released back in October, is sitting pretty at around 75,900 viewers, while Nintendo's newly released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake (it's good!) has brought in a wonderful 63,100 watchers on the day of its arrival.

Perhaps contributing to World of Warcraft: Forever's success is the fact it launched with few problems, enjoying one of the smoothest day-one releases in the series' recent history. Its beta proved especially popular, with Blizzard developers calling it one of the most successful betas they've ever seen. One wonders how many of these current Twitch viewers are adults getting their WoW fix during work while their boss isn't looking?

There've been no official numbers to illustrate World of Warcraft: Forever's popularity as of yet, but Blizzard has kept WoW subscriber counts close to its chest since around 2015. However, you'd imagine a successful release might prompt some well-earned showboating.
