Viral 2011 Horror Hit Megan Is Missing Just Got a Sequel Series on Instagram

Fifteen years after its initial release, one of the internet's most infamous cult horror movies, Megan Is Missing, has unexpectedly gained a sequel, and fittingly, it's available for free on Instagram.

Megan Is Missing: Evil Never Dies was written and directed by original filmmaker Michael Goi. After being quietly released in episodes and teasers by Goi, cast members, and influencers, the complete project is now fully accessible online.

"For years, people have asked me to continue the story of Megan Is Missing. But it never seemed to be the right time. Until now," Goi told Dread Central.

“Megan Is Missing: Evil Never Dies gives me the opportunity to use the vertical format in ways that increase the audience’s proximity to the terror they are seeing. It brings them closer to disturbing events and makes them part of what is happening to the characters.”

Released originally in 2011, Megan Is Missing centered on high schoolers Megan and Amy, whose lives spiral into a cautionary-tale-style nightmare after Megan connects with an online stranger. Framed through found footage, video chats, and webcam feeds, it gained widespread notoriety for its dark subject matter and bleak climax. It initially flew under the radar but attracted public attention in 2020 on TikTok, leading Goi to share a public warning regarding the movie's brutal scenes.

In the sequel, original stars Rachel Quinn and Amber Perkins play a version of their real-world selves, invited to appear on a podcast. Unfortunately, the host is not who he seems and has sinister intentions for the pair. You can head to Instagram to binge all 36 episodes right now.
