Once NVIDIA DLSS 5 neural rendering was officially released in September, many have experimented with the technology to see how far it could be pushed. While it delivers the best results in games with realistic aesthetics such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, we have also seen how it can work on games with different art styles, such as the classic Super Smash Bros. Melee and the Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World. And in Astral Chain, NVIDIA's technology propels its native PC port into remaster territory.

A new video shared on YouTube by No Music Gaming showcases the recently released port of the Nintendo Switch exclusive developed by PlatinumGames running with NVIDIA DLSS 5 neural rendering. While there are no specifics, one simple look at the video shows how much neural rendering enhances the environments with more detailed textures and slightly moodier lighting that serves the experience surprisingly well.

Even without NVIDIA DLSS 5, the Astral Chain native PC port is a project worth keeping an eye on. The November 4 update introduced significant improvements, including support for controllers other than Xbox, experimental uncapped framerate, in-game settings menus, rumble support, and more. For the record, "most of the code, tooling, reverse engineering and documentation was written by Claude (Anthropic) through Claude Code," which is now par for the course for the vast majority of these projects that have flooded the internet in the past few weeks.

While I do share misgivings about heavy AI use, I also appreciate how Astral Chain has finally been released from its Nintendo Switch prison. At launch, I felt the game was one of the best Nintendo Switch exclusives, but I put off replaying it because of the 30 FPS lock, which is no longer a problem thanks to this unofficial native port.
