GTA 6 Still Has No PC Release Date, but an NVIDIA DLSS 5 and 90 FPS Multi-Frame Generation Experiment Shows How Realistic It Could Look

GTA 6 launches in a little over two weeks on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and from everything we know about the game, it will push current-generation hardware hard. As such, it will only be with the yet-to-be-dated PC version that fans of the series will be able to enjoy it at its very best, and a very interesting new experiment shared online provides a glimpse of what NVIDIA DLSS 5 neural rendering could bring once the game is out on the platform.

"I’ve been playing around with DLSS 5 and 3x Frame Generation on the GTA VI Extended Look trailer, just to see what it would look like going from 30 to 90 FPS. The whole thing was processed in real time with software made for this kind of console-to-PC pipeline," wrote RevolutionaryBus8208 on the GTA6 Unmoderated subreddit. "I used Veyra 2.1.1, a tool that can take a video source (video files, capture cards, Remote Play, etc.) and apply Neural Rendering, upscaling, and Frame Generation in real time. I also integrated MFG Unlock into it so I can unlock Multi Frame Generation on my RTX 4080 and experiment with 3x/4x FG on 40-series cards."

As NVIDIA DLSS 5 neural rendering works best with realistic aesthetics (although it also shines in games like Mario Kart World), the end results are impressive, especially considering it is running on a flat video that lacks the data it needs for the best results. Due to these limitations, the characters' faces look heavily filtered and somewhat off, but the environment still looks stunning, making the game's realistic aesthetics even more so. Multi-Frame Generation at 90 FPS looks off as well, with a lot of ghosting, but that is to be expected given the extended look trailer's 30 FPS.

Regardless, this is a very interesting experiment, and one that can be easily replicated thanks to the Reddit user who has detailed the setup they are putting together to enjoy GTA 6 with NVIDIA DLSS 5 ahead of its PC release. The PS5 → 4K HDR capture card (or Remote Play) → Veyra / RTX 4080 → 4K 144 Hz TV chain is sure to introduce some input delay, but for some it could be worth it to play the game with visuals that will only be possible in the future (though the wait could be shorter than anticipated).
