Today, well ahead of the 15th anniversary of Skyrim, Bethesda Game Studios finally unveiled the full title of the next game in its premier franchise: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
We already had plenty of evidence that would be the case, so that's not really big news. The more interesting tidbit coming out of the new trailer was the following quote, attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell:
The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.
This confirms that the plot will revolve, at least in part, around the Elder Scrolls themselves, the mysterious artifacts of divine making. Interestingly, the quote is dated 4E 206, which is just five years after the events of Skyrim in the official timeline. Of course, that does not mean the game itself will take place at that time; it could easily be a fragment of prophecy that the player character discovers much later in the Fourth Era.
Further than that, there is only speculation. Hammerfell was the Empire's only province to fight off the Thalmor on its own, after the White-Gold Concordat had ceded a large portion of southern Hammerfell to the Aldmeri Dominion. The narrative could weave political and mystical threads, or lean more toward one or the other; we simply don't know yet.
What we do know is that Bethesda itself confirmed it would be "some time" before more official information could be shared, and Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has now quantified how long is left before the launch of The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel - more than two years.
Again, this won't be entirely surprising for those who followed recent news. A credible source has suggested that Xbox's next-generation console, codenamed Project Helix, is targeting Holiday 2028; however, at least according to renowned AMD leaker Kepler_L2, that's not because of any manufacturing issues. The prevailing theory is that the delay from 2027 might be due to waiting for a big exclusive launch title, and that game can only be The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel if we connect the dots.
It's the only game in development within that kind of launch window that could even remotely move the needle for Xbox. Moreover, Bethesda itself has a lot on its hands between various projects in the Fallout franchise and ongoing Starfield support, and its workforce was even slightly reduced by the recent Xbox layoffs, leading some staff members to fear a delay. Thus, Schreier's confirmation seals what we already believed: Sentinel will launch in late 2028, likely as the big killer application for the next-generation Xbox.
