Bethesda Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary By Revealing The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, But It Will Be “Some Time” Until More Is Shared

Bethesda Softworks celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, but so far it's been a relatively quiet year for the studio, as its biggest release was the PlayStation 5 version of Starfield and the Terran Armada DLC. However, the studio still had one more surprise to drop before the year ended, finally confirming the name of the sixth entry in The Elder Scrolls series: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
The announcement of the name, which didn't exactly come as a surprise, arrived today thanks to a new video celebrating the studio's aforementioned anniversary. Unfortunately, besides the logo, Bethesda didn't show anything about The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, letting a quote from Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, confirm the game's long-rumored setting and begin the speculation: "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate."
Sadly, the fact that The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel has been announced as the game's official name doesn't mean that it is any closer to release. "Thank you for 40 years of shared memories. We can't wait to make even more together with The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel," Bethesda said on X. "Development continues, and while it'll be some time before we're ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you."
While it is a shame that we won't be seeing The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel anytime soon (which is looking more and more poised to be a launch title for the Xbox Project Helix next-generation console), it's great to finally know about the long-anticipated next entry in the series. With Skyrim's enduring success, expectations will be as high as they have ever been for a new entry in the series, but as Bethesda is fully aware of them, there's little doubt that Sentinel could be one of the role-playing games that will define the future of the genre, for better or worse.
