Rome wasn't built in a day.
Ubisoft is reportedly working on two new Assassin's Creed games, and one of them is set in ancient Rome.
That's according to YouTuber Xj0nathan, who says the Rome game is codenamed Mars. He claims two sources with access to Ubisoft's backend systems backed up the information, and that the setting will likely be linked to the upcoming Assassin's Creed TV series.
The second game, codenamed Pocket, is said to be a mobile title set in Jerusalem. Xj0nathan claims it'll play a bit like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Mastery Challenge, and look similar to the most recent Prince of Persia. The hero's mentor is apparently a character called Myriam.
Insider Gaming says it's heard the codenames too, but couldn't confirm them well enough to report them independently. It puts some of that down to the turbulence the franchise has gone through since former Assassin's Creed boss Marc-Alexis Côté left Ubisoft.
Last month, the outlet's sources also claimed Assassin's Creed Hexe, the next mainline game, had been delayed internally by another year, likely to 2028. Other reports claim we'll see it next year.
If Mars does move into full production, don't hold your breath - Insider Gaming doesn't expect us to hear anything about it until 2029 or 2030.
Assassin's Creed has visited Rome before, in 2010’s Brotherhood, but that was the Renaissance version of the city.
The leak comes less than a week after Ubisoft issued a statement about the future of the Assassin's Creed series, insisting there are currently no new remakes of the series' past games in the works.
