Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has confirmed that Respawn Entertainment is far into the development of Star Wars Jedi 3, and the game's unveiling may come soon enough.
The questions were asked following his reveal that BioWare was shutdown and its Mass Effect game canceled because publisher Electronic Arts preferred to fund Star Wars Battlefront 3 instead. However, Jedi 3 was safe from this discussion precisely because it's nearly done.
The confirmation that the game was in development came directly from EA. When the previous installment, 2023's Jedi Survivor, launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September 2024, Laura Miele (president of EA Entertainment) said:
Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players.
In June, Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson claimed to have heard that the game would feature an older Cal Kestis, imply a possible time jump from Jedi Survivor.
Schreier's statement seems to confirm a previous leak from Star Wars insider FivesWalker, who mentioned that Star Wars Jedi 3 would be possibly announced this year (maybe at Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards, slated for December 10) and released sometime next year.
For PC players, hopefully the third installment will also deliver a much stronger technical showing. Jedi Survivor's launch was infamously marred by shader compilation and traversal stuttering, and significant problems persisted even after its ninth patch, more than 500 days after the original release. Whatever new locations, Force abilities, or combat options Respawn introduces for the new game, a smoother experience should be high on the studio's to-do list.
There is also an important distinction between a game being far into development and having a confirmed release window. Schreier's comments are encouraging, but they do not turn the rumored 2027 launch or a possible appearance at The Game Awards into official announcements. For now, the prospect of an imminent reveal gives Star Wars Jedi fans something tangible to look forward to after years of waiting. The next trailer will have the considerable task of showing how Respawn intends to bring Cal Kestis' trilogy to a satisfying conclusion.
