According to a fresh rumor posted by MP1st, Sony-owned developer Bend Studio will announce and possibly even release its next project in 2027, since it's much further along in development than anyone had thought up to this point.

This is truly a major surprise because previous reports mentioned that Bend Studio had only begun the project in June 2025, following the cancellation of its unannounced open world live-service game earlier in 2025. At that time, the Oregon-based developer also shed 30% of its workforce, making its progress even more challenging.

To launch a (presumably) triple-A game in less than three years would be unthinkable nowadays, at least from scratch. The obvious conclusion is that they must have been able to reuse a lot of the code and assets they had produced for the canceled game. MP1st doesn't provide much information about the new title, other than that it won't be a live-service game. However, it will be a third-person co-op game.

It won't be a Days Gone sequel, that's for sure. Sony notoriously rejected that pitch several years ago, despite the 2019 game's decent profitability. I personally maintain that it's massively underrated and absolutely deserved a follow-up game.

Weirdly enough, Sony did release Days Gone Remastered and the Broken Road DLC in April 2025, adding new content such as Horde Assault (a Survival Arcade mode), a Permadeath mode, and a Speedrun mode, suggesting they believed at least a little in the IP. The franchise was also going to be adapted to the big screen, but that project appears to be dead, given there have been no updates for over four years.

Hopefully, Bend Studio can catch a break with this upcoming project. Since it's a co-op game, it will likely launch on PC alongside PlayStation 5, just like Helldivers.
