Project Hail Mary's 'untold chapter' launches on Nov. 12

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling sci-fi novel Project Hail Mary is a cinematic masterpiece. But if the movie left you wanting more, you're in luck.

Andy Weir and entertainment studio Maze Theory are teaming up to deliver an “untold chapter” that expands on the events of the film and book. It will cover what Grace and Rocky get up to on their long journey back to Eridani.

What is Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars?

Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is a mixed-reality experience that lets players step into the role of Ryland Grace, who was perfectly portrayed by Ryan Gosling in the film adaptation. After a successful mission on Tau Ceti, Grace must navigate to Rocky's home planet.

Problems quickly begin to arise, and you’ll need to diagnose each issue and figure out how to solve it. That might mean pushing the boundaries of what humanity knows about science, or simply grabbing a wrench and hitting something until it starts working again. The mixed-reality gameplay turns a player's physical surroundings into part of the ship’s environment, with familiar spaces transforming into areas of the Hail Mary.

Just like Grace, players won’t have to figure everything out on their own. Rocky, Grace’s alien best friend, will help manage your inventory, tasks, and cargo, keeping everything shipshape. Puppeteer James Ortiz will reprise his role as the voice of Rocky, giving you the comforting presence of an old buddy.

Players can experience this immersive new chapter when Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars arrives on Nov. 12 on PICO, Android XR, and Meta Quest 3/3S.
