Mass Effect 3’s Co-op Multiplayer Is Revived with Legendary Edition Multiplayer Mod on N7 Day, Even as BioWare’s Closure Hangs Over the Celebration

2026's N7 Day may be sad (albeit with a tinge of hope provided by a Canadian petition to the government) for Mass Effect fans following BioWare's closure, but the ME3Tweaks group (the same folks behind the Pinnacle Station and Happy Ending mods, for example) have a long-awaited gift in store for the community: Legendary Edition Multiplayer, now available for download on Nexus Mods.
As you can easily guess, it is the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer ported to 2021's Legendary Edition, which included the entire original trilogy but skipped the cooperative multiplayer mode that BioWare had introduced with the third installment.
In a blog post that Wccftech received in advance of the release, the modders go in depth into the making of this huge project. Codenamed 'Milan', Legendary Edition Multiplayer took the ME3Tweaks group three years to make. In April 2026, the team decided to split it off entirely from the Legendary Edition; you'll still need to own LE, but the multiplayer mod won't otherwise interact with it in any way.
The mod, however, does not merely port the original mode for ME3; there are many improvements, including:
- Field of View (FOV)
- Aim Assist Tweaks/Configurable Aim Assist
- Full controller support
- Private servers (host your own) with one-click invites/mid match invites
- Photo mode/spectator
- Ultrawide monitor support
- Clean base (depends on LE, with integration to pull achievements from LE to unlock cosmetic items)
- Upscaled textures (some redrawn, most upscaled)
- Rebaked lighting
- Mesh improvements
- Loads of bug fixes
- MP status icons
- Heavy weapons
- New wavelist modes (Unified, Coalition)
The ME3Tweaks group also made other internal changes to support future expansion of Legendary Edition Multiplayer, such as increasing the maximum number of supported maps from 30 to 255. Indeed, they will release a mod maker for community use while continuing to work on additions such as the Redemption Map Pack and Rejection.
The former is a remake of the original map pack created by one of the group's members; the new version will feature proper lighting, pathing, and fewer networking issues. The modders also hope to add a brand new map with working cover. As for Rejection, it would also be a reimplementation of the original mod, which added several new enemies to multiplayer mode. The mod was prototyped but has not yet received a network playtest, and it may take a while to fix the inevitable issues.
The ME3Tweaks group has also done work to make creating new "kits" (character classes, essentially) much easier. Moreover, several minor improvements are already planned, such as improving in-game text chat, improving blind firing, replacing the Challenges interface and the downed UI, and enabling configuration of lobby sizes.
Lastly, the modders disclosed their use of AI, which had been nonexistent for the first two years of development. However, in the last few months, they leveraged AI tools for bug fixing, UI prototyping, pipeline performance, and feature research, which is pretty normal nowadays.
