Welcome to Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the indie app world. If you’re a developer and would like your app featured, get in contact.

If you find yourself playing an instrument with sheet music, flipping the page often requires you to stop playing to turn the page. CueFlip solves that. You can teach it how you play a song, then it can turn the page for you whilst listening.

Highlights

CueFlip doesn’t just assume how it should turn the page, you can explicitly teach it how to. That starts with either a live rehearsal, or a recording you can share with it. Then, you mark the turns.

CueFlip also has a built in dictionary, where you can see certain notes on a page so you can learn how the composer meant to play them, rather than needing to guess them. Many times, these terms will be in other languages, but CueFlip offers built in translation with up to 13 languages. CueFlip covers over 20,000 terms, and it can pull terms from scanned scores as well.

Lastly, CueFlip has a neat little feature with Face ID. If you wink with your right eye, you can manually turn a page forward, and if you wink with your left eye, it’ll go backwards. Similarly, CueFlip also works with manual Bluetooth page turners in addition to the automatic turning, in case you need it.

The story

Here’s why 15 year old classical guitarist Yuze Pan from Beijing decided to build CueFlip:

I play in the Primal Guitar Quartet, and page turns kept breaking up our rehearsals. Paper means taking a hand off the strings, a pedal or a wink is one more thing to remember in the middle of a phrase, and timed turns can’t follow a performer who speeds up and slows down. My first attempt, in 2025, didn’t work. In May 2026 I started again, this time by reading the research on audio alignment, and brought every new build to the quartet’s daily rehearsals.

CueFlip is available for free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad users running iOS and iPadOS 16.4 and later. The free version includes PDFs with annotations and automatic page turning for one score, whereas Pro unlocks unlimited page turning, the music dictionary, wink to turn pages, and much more for $4.99/month and $29.99/year.
